16 NOVEMBER, 1841

King Sahle Sellasie, who ruled from 1813-1847, signed a treaty of friendship and commerce with Great Britain. The king was hoping to attract foreign craftsman to Shewa and to obtain a better supply of arms and munitions (Pankhurst 140).

2 NOVEMBER, 1930

Menelik II died in 1913 and his daughter Zauditu was chosen successor in 1916. Later, her cousin Ras Tafari, Menelik's grandnephew, was declared her heir and successor. The empress died in 1930, and it was on this month of the second day that Ras Tafari was crowned emperor under the name Haile Selassie (Henze 205).
